Cookie policy
At Jack Russel Jeans, we value your privacy and want to be open about the technologies we use, including cookies. This cookie policy explains how cookies are used on our website and how you can manage them.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the website remember your preferences and make it work more efficiently. Websites can also store similar information directly in your browser (browser storage). In this policy, we use “cookies” for both.
How we use cookies
Cookies are generally grouped into the types below. This is what we do with each type:
- Essential cookies: these are needed for the website to work properly, for example to keep you signed in, to keep the contents of your bag and wishlist, and to keep the checkout and your account secure.
- Functional cookies: these remember choices you make on the site, such as your language, your currency (SRD or USD) and whether you use the light or dark theme.
- Performance and analytics cookies: these help a website understand how visitors use it. We do not currently use analytics cookies.
- Targeting cookies: these follow your browsing across websites to show you advertisements based on your interests. We do not use targeting or advertising cookies.
Third-party cookies
Some websites let third parties, such as social media platforms, advertising partners and analytics providers, place cookies on your device. We do not currently do this. If that changes, we will update this policy first.
Your cookie choices
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, but doing so may affect your experience on our website: without essential cookies you cannot stay signed in, and your bag may be emptied. You can usually find these settings in the “Options”, “Settings” or “Preferences” menu of your browser.
For more information on how to manage cookies, visit aboutcookies.org.
Changes to this cookie policy
We may update this cookie policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page, and the date at the top of the page will be updated. If you have any questions or concerns about our cookie policy, please reach us through our contact page.
Privacy policy
This privacy policy describes how Jack Russel Jeans (“we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses and discloses your personal information when you visit this website, use our services or buy from us, or otherwise contact us about the website (together, the “Services”). “You” means you as a user of the Services, whether you are a customer, a website visitor or someone else whose information we have collected under this policy.
Please read this privacy policy carefully. By using the Services, you agree to the collection, use and disclosure of your information as described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
Changes to this privacy policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes to how we work or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. We will post the revised policy on this website and update the date at the top of this page.
How we collect and use your personal information
To provide the Services, we collect personal information about you from the sources set out below. What we collect and use depends on how you interact with us.
Besides the specific uses set out below, we may use the information we collect to communicate with you, to provide and improve the Services, to meet our legal obligations, to enforce our terms of service, and to protect the Services, our rights and the rights of our customers and others.
What personal information we collect
The types of personal information we obtain depend on how you use our website and Services. By “personal information” we mean information that identifies you, relates to you, describes you or can be linked to you, such as your name, email address or delivery address. The sections below describe what we collect.
Information we collect directly from you
Information you give us directly through the Services may include:
- Contact details: your name, address, phone number and email address.
- Order information: what you bought, your delivery address or the store where you collect, the phone number for the order, how you chose to pay, your proof of payment if you pay by bank transfer, and the progress of the order. Delivery addresses you use are saved to your account, with any label and phone number you give them.
- Account information: your name, email address, phone number and password. You need an account to order. Your password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form, so we cannot read it.
- Your bag and wishlist: the items you save, so they are still there when you come back.
- Customer support information: what you choose to include when you contact us, for example through the contact form, and reviews you write about a product.
- Newsletter: your email address, if you sign up.
Information you choose not to give
Some features of the Services need certain information from you. You can choose not to give it, but you may then be unable to use those features, for example placing an order.
Information we collect about your usage
We also collect some information automatically when you use the Services (“usage data”), such as information about your device and browser, your network connection and your IP address. The servers that run the website record this to keep it working and secure. We use the cookies described in our cookie policy above for this; we do not use tracking pixels.
Information we obtain from third parties
We may receive information about you from companies that provide services to us, such as the companies that host this website and send our emails. They process it on our behalf.
When address suggestions are offered at checkout, the text you type into the address search is sent to Photon, a free address search run by komoot over OpenStreetMap data, which sends back matching addresses.
Any information we obtain from third parties is treated in line with this privacy policy. See also “Third-party websites and links” below.
How we use your personal information
We use your personal information for:
- Providing products and services: to process your orders and payments, to deliver your order or prepare it for pickup, to send you messages about your account, orders, returns and exchanges (for example an order confirmation, a reminder about an unpaid bank transfer, or a notice that your order is ready to collect), and to manage your account and saved addresses.
- Marketing: to send you our newsletter, only if you signed up for it. We do not use your information to show you targeted advertisements on other websites.
- Security and fraud prevention: to detect, investigate and act on possible fraudulent, illegal or harmful activity. If you have an account, you are responsible for keeping your login details safe. We strongly recommend that you do not share your password with anyone. If you think your account has been compromised, please contact us straight away.
- Communicating with you and improving our service: to answer your questions and messages, to give you good service, and to improve the Services.
Cookies
Like many websites, we use cookies. We use them to run the website and the shop and to remember your actions and preferences, as described in our cookie policy at the top of this page. We do not use cookies for analytics or advertising, and we do not let third parties place cookies through our website.
Most browsers accept cookies by default, but you can set your browser to remove or reject them. Please keep in mind that removing or blocking cookies can make parts of the website, such as signing in and your bag, stop working properly.
How we disclose personal information
In certain circumstances, we may share your personal information with others to fulfil our agreement with you, for legitimate reasons and for the other reasons in this policy. These include:
- with our staff, who see the information they need to handle your order, such as your name, phone number, delivery address and payment details;
- with companies that perform services for us, such as hosting this website, sending our emails and the address search at checkout;
- when you ask us to, or need us to in order to complete your order, for example to deliver it to you;
- when the law requires it, for example to respond to a lawful request from the authorities, to enforce our terms of service, and to protect the Services, our rights and the rights of our customers or others;
- in connection with a business transaction, such as a sale or merger of the business.
What we share and with whom
For the purposes above, we may share identifiers (such as your contact details and certain order and account information), commercial information (such as order and customer support information) and usage data with the service providers that work for us.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use or share sensitive personal information without your consent or to infer characteristics about you.
Third-party websites and links
Our website may link to websites or other online platforms run by others. If you follow a link to a site we do not run or control, please read its privacy and security policies and other terms. We do not guarantee and are not responsible for the privacy or security of such sites, or for the accuracy, completeness or reliability of the information on them.
Information you share in public or semi-public places, such as on social media, may be visible to other users of those platforms. A link to another website does not mean we endorse its content, its owners or its operators.
Children’s data
The Services are not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information about children. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has given us their personal information, please contact us through our contact page to have it deleted. We do not sell anyone’s personal information, including that of children.
Security and retention of your information
The website is served over an encrypted connection, passwords are never stored in readable form, and proofs of payment can only be seen by you and our staff. Still, no security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee “perfect security”. Information you send us may also not be secure while in transit, so please do not use insecure channels to send us sensitive or confidential information.
How long we keep your personal information depends on several factors, such as whether we need it to maintain your account, to provide the Services, to keep a record of the orders you placed, to meet legal obligations, to resolve disputes or to enforce our terms and policies.
Your rights
You can see and update your profile and your saved addresses at any time in your account. You can also ask us to do the following. These rights are not absolute, may only apply in certain circumstances, and in some cases we may decline a request where the law allows it.
- Access: ask what personal information we hold about you and how we use and share it.
- Deletion: ask us to delete the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: ask us to correct personal information that is wrong.
- Portability: ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you and, in certain circumstances, ask us to pass it on to someone else.
- Restriction: ask us to stop or limit how we use your personal information.
- Withdrawing consent: where we rely on your consent, withdraw it.
- Appeal: if we decline your request, you can ask us to reconsider by replying to our answer.
- Communication preferences: unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time with the link in any newsletter email. We will still send you messages that are not promotional, such as messages about your account or your orders.
How to make a request
To make any of these requests, use our contact page. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. Before we act on a request, we may need to confirm your identity, for example with your email address or account details. If someone else makes a request on your behalf, we will ask for proof that you authorised them, and we may ask you to confirm your identity with us directly. We will respond to your request in good time.
Complaints
If you have a complaint about how we handle your personal information, please contact us through our contact page. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can ask us to look at it again.
International users
Please note that the services we use to run this website may store and process your personal information outside the country where you live, including outside Suriname.
